We’d lived in Sydney for years, but eventually just hit the wall.

So we pulled the plug 0n real life.

Packed our lives into a Landcruiser and headed north from Sydney towing a camper trailer. The plan was to hug the coast until we got sick of each other, or sick of living in a tent, and fortunately neither of those things happened…

Instead we kept going, and eventually clocked up 31,390 kilometres driving around the country. The whole bloody lot of it.

“Oh daaaaaadddd…”

That’s how it went, usually, when I’d stop to take a photo or read a little plaque on a tree, somewhere in the middle of nowhere...

I carried on regardless, and by the time we rolled back into Sydney a year later we’d seen places I never knew existed, and now could never forget. We’d learned an enormous amount about this country, and each other, and we remembered how little you really need to live a happy & fulfilling life.

Back to business, not quite as usual.

We also sold our apartment on the way round, and moved to the Southern Highlands when we got back. I continued my annoying habit of ‘reading stuff’ at the side of the road, and digging deeper into the stories all around me.

A lot of the ‘history’ you read is just dates and names, pretty boring really, but there’s often a real human story hiding behind all that. Those are the stories I’ve tried to find, because that’s when history really come to life.

When you can see it, touch it, and make a direct connection from lives of people in our past, to right here, right now. So I’ve tried to make all of that a wee bit more accessible, and combined it with a treasure hunt for a bit of fun too.

Who doesn’t love a treasure hunt?!

Anyway, it’s taken me about seven years to finally get this thing up and running. So hopefully you’ll enjoy it, and enjoy your trip in the Southern Highlands…

All the very best for now.
